Creative Writing Prompts
Students love writing using The Writer. Now writing
prompts are at their fingertips. (Over 40 fun and thought
provoking prompts preprogrammed on board.) Teachers can
assign prompts by number or students can browse and pick
their own. Prompts cannot be written over, are always visible
on the screen and are sent with the file to the computer
or printer. Students simply open their work folder and press
the Apps key. Prompts and responses are automatically stored
as a regular file.

Daily Journal
Journal Writing is a perhaps one of the best formats
for student
writing. Daily, free flowing opportunities to write about
things that matter to students. Now, The Writer offers a special
feature that allows students private access to a special writing
place. Each journal entry is automatically dated and saved.
When ready, your students can download their journals for
formatting and printing; simply point The Writer at our infrared
receiver and press "Send". Journal writing: fun, meaningful,

Spell Check
The spell check should do more than just locate misspelled words. The
Writer can actually help your students to develop their spelling
skills. They'll see the word in context. Your students can choose
the correct spelling or make changes right on the spell check
screen.
Formatted Printouts
With the amount of papers students create
and teachers receive, having a heading on the top of each printout
can be a big help. Students of all grades struggle with organization.

Writer Work-Folder Filing System
The Writer Work-Folder Filing System allows
each student to have his or her own personal and secure work
folder (F1-F8). Within each folder, students store their writing
assignments by name.
This organized and flexible structure allows students to share
their Writers with up to fifteen other students. Each will
have a personal, secure work folder. Students have a number
of writing requirements. They work on book reports, creative
writing, poetry, report sections, etc. concurrently. They
need organization, and they need flexibility.
Some portable keyboards limit students to a fixed number
of un-named files. This only makes for frustration, inconvenience
and problems.

Thesaurus
and Auto-Thesaurus
The Writer offers two vocabulary-building features. Each offers
wonderful vocabulary building help at the touch of a key.
The Writer Thesaurus key allows students to check individual
words for options simply by placing the cursor on the word and
pressing the Thesaurus key. And now with the auto-thesaurus,
students can automatically have their entire document scanned
for words that teachers feel are overused.
Students simply type out their story then press Option-Thesaurus.
The Writer automatically locates all words that are in the “Over-Used
Word List” and offers a variety of alternatives. A fantastic
way to help students expand their vocabulary and express themselves
more descriptively and accurately. (Many “over-used” words are
preprogrammed or the teacher can customize The Over-Used
word List.) v
Teachers and students struggle when it comes to expanding vocabulary.
Though students have an understanding vocabulary numbering
in the thousands, their written vocabulary is numbered
